It's ELECTION Time!
As you are aware, we are presently in a provincial election campaign. As such, we have accelerated some of our planning and have drafted the questions below in hopes of attracting some attention amongst potential candidates from all parties.
Please consider sharing the following two questions with your membership and asking that they bring these forward to their local candidates for MLA during this campaign. The council is also requesting that your organization pose these questions to the leaders of the political parties directly. This can happen in person (e.g. if they visit your door), via email or letter writing, social media, and any other format.
Question 1: The NSDEECD Inclusive Education Policy states “Every student can learn with enough time, practice, and equitable and responsive teaching”. What is your party’s position on the present insufficient allocation of instructional time for music education in the elementary (60 minutes per week) and middle school (90 minutes per week) public school programs?
Question 2: What is your party's position on fine arts education supervision and leadership at the Regional Center level? At present only one Regional Centre for Education or School Board has a dedicated arts leadership position. Do you feel that arts education would be better served by this level of supervision and leadership?
